Ms. Garcia's Discipline Policy
All students are expected to act respectfully by following classroom rules that support a safe and healthy learning environment for all. The following consequences will be given when rules are not followed:
- Step 1: Reminder
- Step 2: Warning
- Step 3: Loss of Privilege- A logical consequence is for the related privilege to be taken away with a time-out until the child shows a readiness to handle the privilege.
- Time-out: A child who is beginning to lose control in a way that is disruptive or that compromises safety is asked to leave the scene. During the time away from the group, the child's job is to regain self-control so he/she can come back to the group and participate in a positive way. There are three steps to be identified and written out during time-out: 1) What is the problem? 2) How am I feeling? 3) What needs to be done so I can rejoin the group?
- Step 4: Call Family- In the case of repeated offenses I will call to notify family of misbehavior.
Most behavior problems will be dealt with directly in the classroom. Any physical violence or extremely disruptive behavior that cannot be corrected by the previous 3 Steps will be cause for immediate referral to the principal.
