Auke Bay Harbor

Welcome to my 4th Grade Classroom. This is my 11th year teaching at Auke Bay School. Before teaching here I worked seven years with Special Education at Harborview while getting my Bachelor's in Education at UAS.

Besides teaching children, I've also had lots of great opportunities to travel around Alaska leading teacher workshops in Science and Math. Currently I am working towards getting my Masters in Math Education.

Originally from California I have been a Juneau resident for 28 years. I have a 26 year-old son who works in the technology industry, a 24 year-old daughter in the Air Force who is a dental lab technician, and a 21 year-old daughter who is working on a degree in nursing. My husband, Steve Merli, is a massage/somatic experience therapist at Wellspring as well as a school naturalist for Discovery Southeast.

I live on North Douglas but don't mind the drive to Auke Bay because I love working here. Check out the great view from my classroom!

I enjoy teaching, and because I believe in the profession, I help train local university students by accepting them into my classroom. Students and I both benefit from the experience of having a "teacher in training" with us. This year we are fortunate to have Jesse Miller. She was raised in Cube Cove, Alaska and has recently been working for the School Board Association. She is very excited to work in our classroom this year.
